Key findings from the latest InsideHPC cloud survey
HPC cloud spending is on the rise. Recent research from HPC analyst firm Hyperion Research shows a dramatic 60 percent increase in cloud spend from just under $2.5 billion in 2018 to approximately $4 billion in 2019 and projects HPC cloud revenue will reach $7.4 billion in 2023, a 24.6% CAGR(1). This matches our experience at Univa. While on-premise clusters aren’t going away, we continue to see a steady increase in the number of customers shifting workloads to the cloud.
To get a better handle on how organizations are using the cloud, Univa teamed up with InsideHPC in late 2019, sponsoring an independent HPC cloud survey. Some key highlights and observations are detailed below.
Univa’s Navops Launch is an automation and spend management platform for migrating compute-intensive HPC workloads to the cloud. It helps enterprises migrate to the cloud, control spending, right-size cloud resources, and automate decisions based on real-time cloud, application and workload-related metrics. Navops Launch was recently the subject of a well-publicized million-core cluster deployment on Amazon EC2 by Western Digital.
