We recently had the pleasure of meeting with Gary Smith of Vertex, a life sciences company in Boston. Gary is an HPC Engineer and is using Univa Grid Engine for workload management and bursting to Amazon from their on-premise cluster. Gary showed us a technology that he is using to do high-level monitoring of his cluster, and I thought that “this would make a very cool blog post.”
Gary uses an LED smart lighting technology called Nanoleaf Light Panels to build a set of panels in his office that indicates cluster status so that at a glance people can see how the Vertex HPC cluster is performing. You can see the monitor in action below:
